Combat Karate: Use of Force Within the Law -  Art Ishii and Rod Kuratomi

Combat Karate focuses on the practical application of karate for real-world self-defense situations. This class emphasizes simple, effective techniques designed for personal protection in violent encounters. Because these techniques can cause serious injury, equal emphasis is placed on understanding when the use of force is legally and ethically justified.

Under the instruction of Ishii and Kuratomi Sensei, students will learn not only how to execute the techniques correctly, but also how to make sound decisions under pressure. Topics include situational awareness, threat recognition, avoidance strategies, and the combat mindset needed to stay calm and decisive during a confrontation.

The course will also examine the legal principles surrounding self-defense and the responsible use of force, helping students understand how to protect themselves while remaining within the boundaries of the law. When avoidance is no longer possible, students will learn practical methods for stopping an attacker and surviving a violent encounter.
